Wanfred travelled from Aldershot in the UK to install a newspaper printing press in the Ballina Herald. Wanfred remained in Ballina afterwards and continued working for the Ballina Herald. He married a Cork woman (up the rebels!), Nora, and changed jobs to work at the Cork Constitution newspaper.

Wanfred joined the Cork Examiner. His wife Nora died young and Wan had to work nights in the newspaper while also bringing up four children (three boys and a girl).

Chapter 2
